The Scots found themselves at a deficit early as Wentworth opened the day with a clean sweep in doubles action. Juan Rodriguez (Sr./Quito, Ecuador) and Dave Filar (Sr./Wolcott, Conn.) teamed up to best Gordon's No. 1 team of
Zach Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and
Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.), 8-6, while James Drum (Fr./Madison, Conn.) and Sean Murray (Fr./North Brookfield, Mass.) did the same at No. 2 with an 8-4 victory over
Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) and
Richie Armand (Fr./Hempstead, N.Y.). Despite a hard-fought effort at No. 3, Gordon's
Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) and
Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.) could not come up with the tiebreaker win, ceding defeat to the Leopards' Andy Chen (Jr./New Taipei City, Taiwan) and Tim Nguyen (Sr./Windsor, Conn.) (9-8, (7-3)) to leave the Scots winless heading into singles play.
Individual action proved equally as close as Rodriguez battled Hall for a three-set tiebreaker win at No. 1 (6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7)), Filar pulled out another three-set win at No. 3 over Gordon's Inkles (6-2, 1-6, 7-6 (7-5)), and Murray took the back two sets off Olszak for the overall win at No. 6 (3-6, 6-2, 6-2).
Gaudio and Daugherty registered the Scots' lone wins of the day at No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, with Gaudio taking a 6-4, 6-4 victory from Drum and Daughtery recording a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Nguyen.
The Scots return to the court on Monday, March 25 as they travel to nearby Salem State for a 3:30 p.m. non-conference start. Wentworth returns to conference action against Curry on Wednesday, March 27 at 3:30 p.m.
