Scots Pick Up 6-3 Home Win Over Newbury

Box Score

The Gordon College Baseball program used timely hitting and tremendous pitching to defeat the visitors from Newbury College by a score of 6-3. The win improves the Scots to 7-4 on the season as the Nighthawks of Newbury fall to 3-9.

Gordon got on the board in the first inning when Eric Walker (Danvers, Mass.) led off the game with a single. Walker would later score on a Brian Harrington (Shoreham, N.Y.) RBI groundout. Gordon’s lead grew to 2-0 one batter later when freshman Alex Potocki (New Fairfield, Conn.) belted his first collegiate home run.

The Scots took a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the third inning when freshman Eric Rinaldi (Torrington, Conn.) drilled an RBI double into the right field gap.

Gordon took a 4-1 lead into the top of the fifth inning but Newbury narrowed the gap with two runs courtesy of a two-out single from Michael Clawson (Sr./Tolland, Conn.). The Scots proceeded to lay on the final blow with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the sixth and the 6-3 deficit was too much for Newbury to overcome.

Harrington earned the save with three stellar innings out of the bullpen. Ben Davidson (Sterling, Mass.) got the start for Scots and threw five quality innings to earn his second win of the campaign.
