In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse action today at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex, the Golden Bears of Western New England handed the host Fighting Scots a 15-5 loss to improve to 4-3, 2-0 in conference and drop the Scots to 1-7 overall, 0-2 in league.
WNE received goals from 11 different scorers en route to the win, with Michael Donahue (Jr./South Windsor, Conn.) leading the way with a hat trick to up his season total to 13. Brandon Body (So./Newtown, Conn.) earned the win for the Golden Bears in net, turning away two shots in 30 minutes of first half work.
Jake Martin (Fr./Watertown, Conn.) and
Mio Sison (So./Warren, Mich) each scored a pair of goals to guide the Scots' outing, while
Matt Dantona (So./Syosset, N.Y.) netted his first of the year and dished two assists. Keeper
Houston Zemanski (Sr./Annapolis, Md.) is credited with the loss after making six stops in the first 30 minutes, while
Cody Greenwald (Fr./Albany, N.Y.) took over in the second and turned away 11.
Martin was the first to break the silence on the day after collecting a feed from Dantona and beating Body for the 1-0 lead at 13:56. WNE's Sean Lawton (Jr./Abington, Mass.) responded just a minute and a half later with the Golden Bears' first goal of an 11-0 run that spanned the remainder of the first half and into the opening minutes of the second.
Though the Scots rallied in the third with four straight goals in the middle of the stanza (two back-to-back from Sison and one each from Martin and Dantona), WNE closed out the period and the game with four goals to quell the comeback effort and secure the 10-point victory.
The Scots look to snap their skid on the road at Wesleyan on Saturday, March 30 at 1 p.m., while the Golden Bears are back at it on the same day at 4 p.m. when they play host to Springfield.
