Scots Sweep Doubles To Take 8-1 Win Over Salve

NEWPORT, R.I. - Gordon College men's tennis posted an 8-1 win over Salve Regina University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action as Seahawk senior Brian Sweeney(Waldoboro, Maine) came back from a 3-0 first-set deficit an eventually won in three sets to clinch his team's point.

The Scots swept the three doubles matches and had their toughest challenges at first and second. Freshman Zach Hall (Sugarland, Texas) and Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.) won 8-6 at No. 1 over Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) and Aaron Isch (Tolland, Conn.). Freshman Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) took No. 2 by the same score over Mike Gallerani (Fairfield, Conn.) and Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.).

Gallerani was seeing his first tennis action of the season. The Scots won at No. 3 doubles with Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) and Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.) over James Diamantopoulos (West Yarmouth, Mass.) and Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.).

In his singles match, Nguyen fought back in his first set but eventually dropped the final eight games. Senior co-captain Kenneth McCormack (Falmouth, Mass.) picked up two games in his second set at No. 3 singles against Inkles.

Gaudio got Gunning at No. 2 singles while Armand defeated Gallerani at No. 4 singles. Hall executed a serve-and-volley attack successfully against Isch before Sweeney took the final point of the day.

Salve Regina next plays at defending conference champion Nichols College next Tuesday (April 2) while Gordon hosts nonconference opponent Colby-Sawyer tomorrow (March 28) at 3:30p.m.
