MIDDLETOWN, Conn.- Meeting for just the second time ever and the first time in 15 years, Wesleyan made short work of its home contest against Gordon College today, taking a 15-1 men's lacrosse decision over the visiting Fighting Scots.
Wesleyan outshot its visitor, 45-12, as junior Remy Lieberman paced the Cardinal attack with three goals and two assists. Sophomores Matt Prezioso and David Murphy chipped in with four-point games as Prezioso had a hat trick and one helper while Murphy added a goal and three assists. The three comprise the Wesleyan starting attack, accounting for seven goals and six assists while playing less than half the contest.
Wesleyan built a 5-0 lead 7:33 into the game as Lieberman had a pair of goals and an assist while Murphy had a goal and two assists and Prezioso a goal and an assist. The Cardinals led 8-0 after one period and 11-0 at halftime. That margin grew to 14-0 in the third period before Gordon got on the board with with a goal from sophomore
Jordan Heckelmann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) with 1:29 left in the third. Wesleyan got the last goal from sophomore Quentin DellaFera early in the fourth quarter.
Wesleyan starting goalie junior Mark Simmons played the first period but faced no shots on goal, while senior JD Dieterich played the final 45 minutes and recorded six saves. Gordon split its time in net evenly as senior
Houston Zemanski (Annapolis, Md.) allowed 11 goals and made nine saves in the first half while freshman
Cody Greenwald (Albany, N.Y.) played the second half, making four stops with four goals allowed.
Wesleyan is back in action Wednesday, April 3, traveling to SUNY Farmingdale for another non-conference tilt. Gordon resumes game mode Wednesday as well, visiting Curry for a CCC contest.
