Freshmen
Jake Martin (Watertown, Conn.),
Brenton Cosden (Chicago, Ill.),
Colin Davis (Mystic, Conn.), and
Roger Evans (Oxford, Pa.) together with sophomore
Jordan Heckelmann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) rounded out the Scots' offensive with a goal each, while sophomore
Matt Dantona (Syosset, N.Y.) and Heckelmann dished two assists apiece. Defensively, senior captain
Dom Dantona (Syosset, N.Y.) caused seven turnovers and picked up as many ground balls and senior keeper
Houston Zemanski (Annapolis, Md.) turned away nine Mariners attempts for the win.
Maine Maritime's outing was guided by Tom Houle (Sr./Manchester, N.H.) with two goals and Nick Betti (So./Upper Saddle River, N.J.), Bronson Guimond (So./Portland, Maine), Alex Hermes (Jr./Fallsington, Pa.), A.J. Larrabee (So./Farmington, Maine), and Tim Grant (Fr./East Northport, N.Y.) with one goal each. Netminder Erik Milles (Sr./Bangor, Maine) blocked six in the losing effort.
The Scots notched the first two tallies of the evening when Heckelmann and Evans converted Matt Dantona assists at 13:53 and 9:44, respectively, to give Gordon the 2-0 lead midway through the opening period. MMA's Guimond scored the Mariners' first of the day just eight seconds after Evans' goal, though, to keep the game within one. Sison then buried back-to-back goals in the final minutes to put the Scots up 4-1 at the end of the first.
After Spellman found the back of the net on an unassisted effort at 11:32 in the second, both teams went on to trade goals throughout the remainder of the period to make it a 7-4 game in favor of the Scots at the midway point.
The Scots then went on to outscore their guests 4-2 in the third frame, the final goal of which came from Davis with just five seconds remaining to put Gordon up 11-6 heading into the final period.
Though the Mariners applied significant offensive pressure in the fourth to outshoot Gordon 14-1, only one of those attempts found the back of the net as Gordon backup keeper
Cody Greenwald (Fr./Albany, N.Y.) stopped an impressive six shots to preserve the four-goal victory.
The Scots are back at it on Thursday, March 7 as they travel to nearby Salem State for a 4 p.m. start. The Mariners have a week and a half off before facing host Southern Maine on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m.
