Rookie
Roger Evans (Fr./Oxford, Pa.) was at the helm for the Scots on attack with four goals on the night, while
Mio Sison (So./Warren, Mich.) added two goals and an assist,
Matt Dantona (So./Syosset, N.Y.) one goal, one assist, and
Jordan Heckelmann (So./Colorado Spring, Colo.),
Brenton Cosden (Fr./Chicago, Ill.), and
Colin Davis (Fr./Mystic, Conn.) pitched in one each. Despite the loss,
Houston Zemanski (Sr./Annapolis, Md.) turned away 17 shots in a full 60 minutes for the Scots.
Gordon jumped to an early lead as Sison, Dantona, and Evans recorded a trio of unanswered goals in the opening five minutes of the first. The Nor'easters then began to heat up on their own offensive end, responding with a 4-0 run over the next 10 minutes behind two from Thomas and one each from Cloutier and Allan to overtake a 4-3 advantage at the close of the first.
Sison wasted little time in the next frame, netting his second of the night on a solo effort at 13:25 to draw the game back to even. Wolfe then gave UNE the edge less than 30 seconds later off a Gross feed, but Evans took advantage of man-up situation late in the period to net the equalizer and leave the game locked at 5-5 at the half.
At the 11:18 mark in the third, Hecklemann put the Scots back on top for the first time since the opening period, but UNE's Wolfe and Allan connected on their next two attempts and Higginbottom converted his only tally of the contest to build the Nor'easters' lead to two goals (8-6) at 3:04. Not to be outdone, the Scots received a goal each from Cosden, Evans, and Davis in the final minute and a half to give Gordon the one-goal edge.
UNE went to work in the final period, however, netting three goals and limiting the Scots to just one late in the frame to secure the narrow victory.
The Scots, now 2-10 overall and 1-4 in conference, host Salve Regina University on Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m. The Nor'easters (9-3, 3-1 CCC) travel to Western England for a CCC matchup on the same day at 4 p.m.
