The Fighting Scots put a stop to their four-match slide with a 9-0 sweep over the visiting Anchormen of Rhode Island College today in a men's tennis dual match at Gordon's Brigham Athletic Complex.
The win improved the Scots to 4-9 overall while RIC drops to 1-7.
Gordon proved dominant in both paired and individual action on the day as
Zach Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and
Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.) teamed at No. 1 doubles to take down Alex Werchadlo (Jr./Woonsocket, R.I.) and Ben Proctor (Fr./Cumberland, R.I.), 8-4,
Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) and
Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) had the most commanding doubles win at No. 2 with an 8-1 decision over Mike Mcaffrey (So./Cumberland, R.I.) and Matt Collins (Jr./Rumford, R.I.), and
Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) and
Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.) combined for an 8-2 victory over the Anchormen's Ted James (Jr./West Greenwich, R.I.) and Cory Duquette (Fr./Warwick, R.I.).
With a hefty 3-0 advantage heading into singles, the Scots wasted little time securing the overall win, capturing straight-set victories in each of the singles matches save for No. 2 in which Gaudio battled to a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) win over Proctor to preserve the clean sweep.
Reigning Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Rookie of the Week Zach Hall upped his season record to an impressive 11-2 overall with his win at No. 1.
The Scots return to Brigham on Saturday to host CCC opponent Nichols College at 11 a.m. RIC travels to UMass Boston for a conference match on the same day beginning at 2 p.m.
