Scots Shutout By #18 Nichols, 9-0

In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's tennis action today at the Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, Mass., the Fighting Scots were shut out by the Bison of Nichols College, 9-0, to drop to 4-10 overall, 1-3 in conference. The Bison, ranked 18th in the region by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), improve to 11-5 overall and 3-1 in the CCC.

Nichols came out on top in each doubles contest with David Drucker (Gr./Bellmore, N.Y.) and Justin DeLuca (Sr./Mashpee, Mass.) defeating Zach Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) at No. 1, 8-6, Cam Lewis (So./Bolton, Mass.) and Carlos De La Cruz (Fr./Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) beating Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) and Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) at No. 2, 8-4, and Paul Healy (So./Pomfret, Conn.) and Dan Roman (Jr./Tolland, Conn.) taking down Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) and Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.) at No. 3, 8-3.

Hall took DeLuca to a nailbiter three sets at No. 1 singles, winning the first 7-6 (9-7), falling in the second 7-6 (9-7), and conceding the tiebreaker, 1-0 (10-5) for just his third defeat of the season. Similarly in the No. 3 spot, Inkles fell 1-0 (10-8) to the Bison's De La Cruz in the third after each picked up a 6-4 win in the first two sets. Salve took the remaining four singles matches in straight sets to secure the overall victory on the day.

The Scots take to the court again on Tuesday, April 16 as they host CCC opponent Western New England at 3:30 p.m., while the Bison travel to face both Curry and Emerson on the same day at 3 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
