In Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s tennis action today at Gordon’s Brigham Athletic Complex, the Lions of Eastern Nazarene College handed the host Fighting Scots a 7-2 loss to improve to 5-2 in league play, 9-7 overall. The loss drops the Scots to 1-5 in the CCC, 4-12 overall.
Zach Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and
Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.) recorded an 8-4 decision over ENC’s Austin Steelman (Sr./Darlington, Md.) and Nick Thompson (Jr./York, Pa.) at No. 1 doubles for the Scots’ only win of paired play. At No. 2, Sam McKay-Corkum (So./Rehoboth, Mass.) and Tim Luz (Jr./Cumberland, R.I.) took down Gordon’s
Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) and
Richie Armand (Fr./Hempstead, N.Y.), 8-2, while teammates Tyler Perron (So./Plympton, Mass.) and Kevin Paterno (Fr./Buenos Aires, Argentina) did the same by an 8-1 margin at No. 3 over
Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) and
Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.) to give the Lions the slight 2-1 edge at the outset of singles competition.
From there the Lions nearly swept the remainder of the match, taking straight-set victories in all matches but No. 4 where Armand dueled Paterno to a 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 win to give the Scots their second and final victory of the contest.
Gordon will travel to Roger Williams on Saturday, April 20 for a CCC duel with the Hawks beginning at 4 p.m. ENC has nearly a week off before traveling to Western New England on Wednesday, April 24 for a 3:30 p.m. start.
