Junior captains
Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, Conn.) and
Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.) recorded 10 points and six points, respectively, to guide the Fighting Scots to an 18-6 non-conference win over Worcester State University tonight at the Lancers' Coughlin Field.
Blomberg paced the win with six goals and four assists while Fitzgerald netted five, handed out one, and collected seven draw controls to help the Scots improve to an impressive 11-2 overall on the season. The host Lancers moved to 8-4 overall with the loss.
Bailey Grinnell (Fr./South Hamilton, Mass.) also had a standout night on the attack for the Scots with three goals, while
Olivia Balloveras (So./Freeport, N.Y.) registered two,
Jessie Castelline (Fr./Concord, Mass.) chipped in one goal and two assists, and
Abbey McManus (Sr./Bel Air, Md.) recorded her first collegiate tally.
Danielle Maguire (Jr./Braintree, Mass.) earned the win in net for Gordon with seven saves in just over 43 minutes of work, while reliever
Julianne Kirkpatrick (So./Rochester, N.Y.) turned away two in the remaining minutes.
Jackie Connors (Fr./Ashland, Mass.) led all Lancers with two goals, while Vicki O'Brien (Jr./Canton, Mass.) added one goal, one assist and Kalia Chase (Fr./Northbridge, Mass.), Molly Kilday (So./Westford, Mass.), and Michelle Tully (So./Tewksbury, Mass.) booked one each. Alex Chisolm (Sr./Brookfield, Mass.) made three stops for Worcester in the loss.
Worcester's Chase opened scoring on the night with an unassisted effort at 28:59, but the Scots wasted no time earning that goal back and then some, going on an 8-0 run over the next 15 minutes to establish a comfortable mid-half lead. Though O'Brien and Kilday would stop that run with back-to-back goals at 12:27 and 11:12, Blomberg converted twice and Castelline once while the Scots' defense limited the Lancers to a single tally from Connors in the waning minutes to make it an 11-4 game at the break.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, as the Scots outscored their hosts 7-2 in the period to cruise to the 12-point victory.
Gordon takes a nearly week-long break from competition before returning to conference action on Wednesday, April 24 at Nichols College.
