Bridgewater State claimed five of six matches in singles play to secure a 6-3 non-conference win over Gordon in men’s tennis action today at the Brigham Athletic Complex. The Scots drop to 3-7 overall on the year while the Bears improve to 5-1 with the victory.
Gordon earned the edge in doubles action after
Zach Hall (Fr./Sugarland, Texas) and
Kenny Gaudio (Jr./Miller Place, N.Y.) recorded an 8-6 decision over Bridgewater’s Wesley Esthimer (So./Franklin, Mass.) and Jesse Gotlib (Jr./Dartmouth, Mass.) at No. 1 and
Richie Armand (Fr./Hempstead, N.Y.) and
Brandon Inkles (Sr./New York, N.Y.) defeated Eric Johnson (Jr./Kingston, Mass.) and Hung Huynh (Fr./Worcester, Mass.) by the same score at No. 2. Putting a stop to the Scots’ doubles sweep were Matt McLeod (Fr./Leicester, Mass.) and Alex McGannon (Fr./Fairhaven, Mass.) at No. 3 who blanked Gordon’s
Joe Daugherty (Fr./Norfolk, Va.) and
Mike Olszak (So./Danvers, Mass.), 8-0, to keep the match within one (2-1).
From there the day belonged to the Bears, however, who claimed straight-set wins in all matches but No. 1 singles where the Scots’ Hall took a 6-1, 6-4 result over Esthimer.
The Scots travel to nearby Endicott College for a conference matchup on Thursday, April 4 at 3:30 p.m. while Bridgewater travels to Rhode Island College on Saturday, April 6 for a 1 p.m. start.
