Meet Results
Salem, Mass. -- Salem State had some trouble on the Central Campus Tennis Courts today, as they fell to the Gordon College Fighting Scots by a score of 7-2. Gordon College started the day by sweeping the doubles round. The first doubles flight saw
Zach Hall (Sugarland, Texas) and
Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) topple Matt Lee (Pembroke, Mass.) and Tyler Seidel (Suffield, Conn.), 8-2. The third doubles team for the Scots of
Joe Daugherty ( Norfolk, Va.) and
Mike Olszak (Danvers, Mass.) defeated the Vikings tandem of Krystian Biedul (Podkowa, Poland) and Conner Erickson (Hubbardston, Mass.) by the score of 8-6. The second doubles match took the longest, but
Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) and
Brandon Inkles (New York, N.Y.) end up on the right side of a back and forth battle with Joe Kim (North Andover, Mass.) and Ken Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.) by the score of 8-6.
With all of the doubles matches in hand, the Scots inched closer to a deciding match when Hall defeated Lee at first flight singles, 6-1 6-1. Erickson put the Vikings on the board with a win over Olszak at sixth flight singles 6-1, 6-1.
The deciding point came when Armand outlasted Biedul in the fourth flight, 6-4, 6-3. After the decider Gaudio took out Kim at second flight 6-4 6-4. The Vikings got another point on the board when Hodgkins took care of business at the 5th spot beating Daugherty 6-2 6-3. The final singles flight was the third flight where Inkles defeated Seidel 6-4, 6-1.
In addition to these matches, there were two exhibition matches that took place during the doubles round. Salem State's Kevin Lam (Salem, Mass.) defeated
Jordan Frank (Burlington, Mass.) 8-3. The Scots took the second exhibition match when
Dan Dufoe (Malvern, Pa.) topped Dave Dluznieski (Auburn, Mass.) 9-7 in a tight contest.
Gordon College raises its record to 5-13, while Salem State slides to 2-9.
The Vikings travel to Southern Maine to face the Huskies on Wednesday, while the Scots host Curry on Wednesday.
