Scots Cruise Past Nichols In Regular Season Finale, 19-7

DUDLEY, Mass. – The Fighting Scots finished their regular season campaign with authority today, capturing a 19-7 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over host Nichols College to improve to 12-2 overall, 6-2 in the CCC.

Juniors Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, Conn.) and Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.) each scored four goals for the Fighting Scots while junior Jane Dietrich (West Hartford, Conn.) and freshman Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) each potted three. Fitzgerald dished out three assists while Blomberg and sophomore Brittany Hawkins (Hampstead, N.H.) each handed out two.

Sophomores Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.), Erica Antonison (Albertson, N.Y.), and Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) each scored two goals for Nichols.
 
Gordon led 10-3 sat the half behind four goals from Fitzgerald and two from Grinnell. Bufis, Murphy, and Antonison each scored for Nichols, which was outshot 17-9 through the opening 30 minutes. In the second half, Blomberg’s goal with 12:46 remaining in the half pushed the Gordon lead to 16-6, and her final tally of the game with 5:19 on the clock pushed her season total to 60.
 
Gordon outshot the Bison 27-19 and converted six-of-eight free position attempts. Junior Danielle Maguire (Braintree, Mass.) recorded 10 saves to improve to 9-2 on the season. Sophomore Nia Kelly (Cary, N.C.) made five saves as she fell to 1-2 for Nichols.
 
Sophomore Stephanie Mathewson (Simsbury, Conn.) recorded a game-high five ground balls for Nichols. Blomberg and graduate student Krysti Leach (Naples, Maine) each collected three to lead Gordon.
 
The Bison finished the 2013 campaign 4-11 (2-6 CCC). Gordon has qualified for the conference tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host the University of New England on Saturday, April 27.
