Vikings Cruise Over Scots, 13-4

The visiting Vikings of Salem State University proved too much for the host Fighting Scots in non-conference baseball action today at Gordon's J. Tec White Field, cruising to a 13-4 win to improve to an even 8-8 overall on the year. The loss drops the Scots to 10-5.

Salem got the bats going early and often as Kyle McElroy (Jr./Newburyport, Mass.) RBI singled in the first, Ryan Beliveau (So./Lynn, Mass.) and Ethan Trowt (Jr./Beverly, Mass.) recorded an RBI each in the second, Bill Cataldo (Sr./Reading, Mass.) RBI walked in the third, McElroy two-RBI singled and Brett Cahill (Jr./Gloucester, Mass.) RBI singled in the fourth, and Cataldo RBI singled in the sixth to take an 8-0 lead.

The Scots finally broke their silence with a four-run bottom of the sixth when Brian Harrington (Sr./Shoreham, N.Y.), Alex Potocki (Fr./New Fairfield, Conn.), Ben Davidson (Sr./Sterling, Mass.), and Geoff Brown (Sr./East Moriches, N.Y.) recorded an RBI apiece to close the gap to 8-4 heading down the stretch.

After a scoreless seventh, Salem broke out at the plate again with five runs in the top of the eighth while keeping Gordon's offense at bay in the final innings to capture the nine-run victory.

Sean Buckland (Fr./Lynn, Mass.) earned the win on the mound for Salem giving up five hits and no runs in five full innings, while Eric Proulx (Fr./Charlton, Mass.) absorbed the loss for Gordon.

The Scots look to bounce back on Friday, April 5 on the road at Eastern Nazarene at 2p.m., while Salem travels to take on Southern Maine tomorrow at 3:30p.m.
