Hosting the Monks of St. Joseph's College today in their final contest of the 2013 campaign, the Scots could not quite complete the comeback effort over their guests, conceding a 10-8 loss to wrap up their season at 16-20 overall. The Monks, who just won their fourth consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship, improve to 29-11 overall with the win.

St. Joseph's Taylor Reuillard (Fr./Biddeford, Maine) went 4-5 at the plate with four RBIs while teammate Alex Lorenc (Jr./Nanuet, N.Y.) hit 3-5 on the day. Jimmy Kennedy (Sr./York, Maine) kept his record on the mound unblemished (3-0), pitching 7.0 innings and allowing one earned run off five hits.

Stephen Crawford (Sr./Haddon Heights, N.J.) went 3-4 with two RBIs for the Scots, Brian Harrington (Sr./Shoreham, N.Y.) hit 2-4 with a single RBI, Geoff Brown (Sr./East Moriches, N.Y.) hit 2-5 with two RBIs, and Dillon Coleman (Sr./Cromwell, Conn.) went 1-4 with two RBIs.

The Scots took an early lead in the bottom of the second when Crawford ripped an RBI double to score Alex German (So./Brimfield, Ill.) and later crossed home himself off an error at short by David Nieves (Sr./York, Maine) to make it a 2-0 ballgame.

That lead held until the top of the fourth after a sac fly to right from the Monks' Louie Vigars (Jr./Stratham, N.H.) plated Alex Markakis (Jr./Lynnfield, Mass.) to bring the game to within one. Then, in the top of the seventh, St. Joseph's exploded at the plate for six runs behind RBI singles from Joe Coyne (So./Duxbury, Mass.), Mike Pratt (Sr./Dartmouth, Mass.), and Nic Lops (So./South Portland, Maine) and a three-run homer from Reuillard to give the Monks the 7-2 advantage heading down the stretch.

Gordon responded in the bottom of the next frame as Crawford RBI singled and Coleman two-RBI singled to cut the deficit to 7-5 heading into the final inning.

Reuillard once again rose to the occasion on offense for the visitors with an RBI single and later scored with Markakis on a Gordon error, leaving the Scots with just one more chance to complete the comeback.

But despite late heroics by Harrington and Brown, who RBI singled and two-RBI doubled, respectively, to close the gap, the Monks' bullpen did its work from the hill to close out the game and preserve the two-run win.

St. Joseph's will travel to Bates on Wednesday, May 8 for a 1 p.m. start.
