Scots Use Six Goals to Blow Past Pilgrims

HENNIKER, N.H.— Gordon College field hockey forward Courtney Scott (Herndon, Pa.) would net three goals and dish out an assist leading the visiting Scots past the New England College Pilgrims 6-1 Saturday afternoon. 
 
Gordon (4-1) would open the scoring just 4:08 into play as Scott would net her team-high eighth goal of the season putting in a centering pass from Karli Balmer (Perkasie, Pa.).
 
The Scots would then add two goals in a six minute span as Katherine Bailey (Baltimore, Md) would one-time in a pass from Scott followed by an unassisted goal by Scott building their lead to 3-0 at the 19:31 mark.
 
Gordon would continue to bring the offensive pressure in the first half out shooting NEC 16-1 and tacking on a final first half goal in the 30th minute courtesy of Sarah Shannon (Chatham, N.J.).
 
Gordon would gather two more scores in the second half including one by Balmer and another by Scott extending their lead to 6-0 with just 16 minutes remaining in regulation. Scott's third goal of the day brings her goal total for the week to seven. The junior transfer has also recorded a hat-trick in three of her last four games, with the exception being Gordon's 5-2 loss to No. 19 MIT on Tuesday. 
 
The Pilgrims (1-6) would break the scoring drought in the 58th minute as Patricia Wright (Essex, Mass.) would put in a loose ball and collect her first score of the season.
 
Gordon finished the afternoon with the 22-4 advantage in shots on net and the 12-3 advantage in corners.
 
Splitting time in net for Gordon was Anna Bury (Huntingtown, N.J.) and Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) with Bury getting the win for the Scots. NEC's Courtney Duquette (Enfield, N.H.) finished the game with 16 saves, while defender Jaclyn Papagni (Lynnfield, Mass.) collected three defensive saves.
 
Gordon will hit the field on Wednesday, Sept. 18 when they open up CCC play at home against University of New England.
