Volleyball Stays Unbeaten with 3-0 Victory Over Becker

LEICESTER, Mass. – Senior outside hitter Lauren Kranyak (Locust Grove, Va.) recorded 14 kills with eight digs to lead visiting Gordon College to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-17) win over host Becker College Tuesday night at the Leicester Gymnasium. The Scots of Gordon are now 3-0 to start their season while the Hawks of Becker open their 2013 season at 0-1.
 
Freshman middle blocker Jenna Labbadia (Berlin, Conn.) contributed eight kills and 11.5 total points to the Scots' effort. Junior setter Joy Kimmel (Madison, Conn.) set the table with 35 set assists to go along with four service aces and six digs. Freshman libero Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio) led the Scots on the defensive end with 13 digs and two service aces.
 
For the Hawks, senior right side Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, Conn.) contributed four kills and two solo blocks. Junior setter Lauren LaVallee (Millbury, Mass.) tallied 14 set assists and six digs.
 
"I am proud of the way the girls battled tonight," said Coach Ruth DeLuca following the contest. "We got down in the second set by as many as nine points, but the team stayed steady and chipped away at the lead before finally taking the win."

Gordon looks to keep their winning streak alive on Friday against Colby College in the opening match of the Colby Invitational. The Mules have yet to play a match this season. Friday's matchup will get underway at 5 p.m. in Waterville, Maine.
