Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Offense Explodes for Eight Goals to Sink Mariners

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Men's Soccer scored seven of its eight goals in the final 40 minutes of regulation as the Fighting Scots cruised to a commanding 8-1 win over Mitchell College. An own goal was the only score through 45 minutes of play before Gordon's offense erupted in the second half of a rebound victory at the Brigham Athletic Complex turf on Wednesday night.

For the second game in a row, Gordon dominated possession and shot counts, but they were finally rewarded for their efforts with a brilliant offensive showing. A defensive mistake by the Mariners provided the Fighting Scots with their only goal of the first half in the 18th minute. Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) sent a cross from the right side in an effort to find Aaron Terjanian (West Chester, Pa.) The ball never found Terjanian, as a Mariners' defender accidentally knocked the ball into the right corner of the net for a 1-0 Gordon lead.

The Fighting Scots outshot Mitchell 11-3 in the first frame, but all four attempts on net were stopped by Ramazan Sinani (Waterbury, Conn.).

Gordon's persistence and pressure paid off in the 54th minute when Nathan Bilbie (Shrewsbury, Pa.) finished off a feed by Terjanian for the fourth goal of his freshman campaign. Senior Evan Crocker (Akron, Ohio) made it a three-goal game just six minutes later on an unassisted attempt after he stole it from a defender at the top of the 18-yard box.

Freshman Matt Jaeger (Ipswich, Mass.) scored a flurry of two goals in less than three minutes in the 67th and 70th minutes. Daniel Perez (Bedford, Mass.) sent a through ball through the seam and Jaeger chipped the first one over the keeper for the score. The freshman netted a similar play, this time going to his right side before the simple touch over Sinani for a 5-0 lead.

Gordon added its second own goal of the contest in the 83rd minute on a failed clear by the Mitchell defense. The Mariners received their only score of the night in the 88th minute on a goal by Enajee Caple (West Haven, Conn.) off a feed by Zack Rocheleau (Winchendon, Mass.). The Fighting Scots added a third by Jaeger just 13 seconds later when Alek Duba (Bristol, N.H.) found him on a cross. With less than a minute to play, Perez scored the final Gordon goal on an unassisted attempt from 15 yards out.

Gordon had 13 of its 19 shots attempt goal on goal, while Mitchell only managed two shots on net. Gordon earned two corner kicks compared to none for the Mariners. Sinani had five saves for the Mariners in the losing effort. Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) played 65 scoreless minutes for the Fighting Scots without seeing a shot to earn the win. Bruce Gerberich (Fredericksburg, Pa.) made one save the rest of the way to preserve the win.

The Fighting Scots travel to Milton, Mass. on Friday for a night game with CCC rival Curry at 7 p.m. Mitchell plays host to Newbury next Wednesday in a NECC contest.
