Gordon Harriers Lock Up Pair of Fourth-Place Finishes

SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—In the final tune-up before the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship in two weeks, the Gordon Cross Country teams managed a pair of fourth-place finishes at the Golden Bear Invitational at Western New England on Saturday morning. Mariah Geiger (Londonderry, N.H.) and Nathan Swaim (Grafton, Mass.) were the top finishers for the Fighting Scots, as each Gordon runner came in eighth place individually.

The women began the day with a top-five finish thanks to quick times by Geiger (20:28.81) and Kasey Mann (Merrimac, Mass.), who finished in 17th overall as the Scots second best runner on the day. Mann finished just 16 seconds behind her elder teammate. Louisa Dodds (Hillsdale, N.Y.) was the third Gordon runner to cross the finish line in 20:57.38 and good enough for 27th place. Emma Gray (Blue Mountain, N.Y.) and Jessica Fittro (Schenectady, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Fighting Scots in 33rd and 43rd slots respectively.

Roger Williams took home the meet title with a score of 61 points. CCC rival Salve Regina was second with 83 points, while Colby-Sawyer finished just behind them with 104. The Fighting Scots had a great day on the course in fourth place with 124 points, just ahead of Eastern Connecticut State with 129.

On the men's side, Swaim ran one of his best races of the year by finishing the 8K race in 27:15.34. Alex Russell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) wasn't far behind with a 15th-place finish in a time of 28:12.75. Wes Nelson (Charlton, Mass.) ran a great race for the Fighting Scots to the tune of a 22nd-place finish. Andrew Manning (Amman, Jordan) and Will Deacon (Raymond, N.H.) finished out the top five scorers for Gordon and aided them to the fourth-place mark in the team competition.

Roger Williams took the clean sweep by winning the men's race as well. Southern Vermont and Colby-Sawyer finished tied for second with 93 points, despite the Chargers having three of the top four finishers. The Fighting Scots racked up 114 points and Worcester State pounced on the fifth place position with 131 points.

Gordon is next on the course in two weeks when they host the CCC Championship in the Gordon trails.
