Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Allcroft, Fabry Pace Gordon Offense in Rout of NEC

WENHAM, Mass.—Freshman Emily Allcroft (Haydenville, Mass.) broke out for two goals and an assist in the first half, as Gordon Field Hockey handed New England College a 6-0 under the Brigham lights on Monday night. The Fighting Scots ran their winning streak to four games and now sit over .500 for the first time this season, while the Pilgrims remain winless on the year.

Gordon controlled much of the game in its possession and outshot the Pilgrims 43-2 in the contest, forcing Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) to be on her toes from the very beginning. An experience-laden Gordon squad at full strength was able to keep the ball in its offensive end for much of the game against a Pilgrims squad comprised of mostly underclassmen.

The Fighting Scots registered six shot in the first five minutes, three of which were saved by Clark and another by Amy Belanger (Whitefield, N.H.) for a defensive save. The early stonewalling didn't limit the Gordon attack, as Allcroft got the Scots on the board in the sixth minute when Grace Fabry ripped a cross from the right side to the middle of the scoring arch. Allcroft redirected the ball against the back of the goal for the early score.

Gordon kept up the pressuring after the restart, forcing Clark to make four more saves in the next five minutes of game time. Belanger also picked up her second defensive save of the game during that span. Katherine Bailey (Baltimore, Md.) put the Scots up two goals on an assist from Allcroft in the 11th minute. Allcroft struck again in the 28th minute when Courtney Scott (Herndon, Pa.) found her at the near post for the ease tip-in to make it 3-0.

Just two minutes later, Marirose Brown (Melrose, Mass.) scored her first career goal as a Fighting Scot off another beautiful cross by Fabry from her post on the right side. Fabry made it 5-0 in the 32nd minute on an unassisted goal when she beat two defenders down the seam of the field and sent one past Clark. Gordon held the five-goal lead at halftime.

New England College took shots in the final minute of the first half and in the third minute of the second half, but those would be its only opportunities to score. Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) had one save in the second half. Scott made it a six-goal advantage in the 42nd minute off a centered pass by Collette Newcombe (Rowley, Mass.). The senior, who was named Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, scored her third goal since returning to the field last Wednesday.

Gordon (7-6) continued to pound the net, but Clark was sharp down the stretch and finished with 26 saves to her credit.

The Fighting Scots are back in action have a rematch with Salve Regina on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Brigham Athletic Complex. Gordon defeated the Seahawks 3-1 in the first matchup on September 13, 2014.
