Men's Cross Country Fourth in CCC Championship

WENHAM, Mass.—The Gordon College Men's Cross Country team trotted their way through the rain and mud to a fourth-place finish at the Commonwealth Coast Confererence Championship, hosted by the Fighting Scots. Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) finished second overall in the race to pace the men's squad, finishing just a few seconds behind the leader and Rookie of the Year from Roger Williams. 

Roger Williams captured the team championship on Saturday at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championships that were held at Gordon College in Wenham, Mass. This is the Hawks 14th consecutive CCC men's cross country title. Roger Williams freshman Tim McGowan bested the entire field to earn Runner and Rookie of the Year honors with an 8K time of 27:25.
 
All-CCC recognition was given to the top-10 finishers, while Runner of the Year honors is awarded to the top finisher, and Rookie of the Year to the top "freshman" runner.

Gordon freshman Kilgore finished four ticks behind McGowan with a time of 27:29, while Roger Williams freshman John McGowan finished third with a time of 27:32.
 
Roger Williams junior Chris Busby finished fourth with a time of 27:33, while University of New England junior Cameron Vallie finished just two ticks behind with a time of 27:35 for fifth place, and Wentworth freshman Daniel McSolla took sixth with a 27:38 finish.
 
Rounding out the top-10 CCC Championship Runners for All-CCC recognition were Roger Williams senior Sean Doyle (27:46), Wentworth freshman Patrick Hopkins (27:46), Wentworth freshman Stephen Gencarelli (27:48), and Wentworth freshman Alex Robbins (27:52).

Gordon ran one of its best team races of the season despite the conditions, with four top-25 finishers. Junior Nathan Swaim (Grafton, Mass.) came in second for the Fighting Scots, sporting an 18th-place finish in a time of 28:43 for the 4.97 mile race. Juniors Wes Nelson (Charlton, Mass.) and Alex Russell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) finished 21st and 22nd place respectively, with Nelson beating his teammate by a hair—28:48 and Russell at 28:49. Junior Andrew Manning (Amman, Jordan) rounded out the scoring for the Fighting Scots in 32nd place overall. Gordon finished with a total of 90 points, just a few points behind perennial top finisher UNE. 
 
The Fighting Scots also earned the conference's team Sportsmanship Award while the coach of the year honor went to Roger Williams head coach Sean Livingston.
 
The senior scholar-athlete award went to Peter LePage from University of New England. LePage is an Pharmacy graduate major who holds a 3.85 grade point average.
