Box Score
MILTON, Mass. – Gordon College outdistanced Curry College, 70-57, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball play Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots improved to 12-8 on the season and 10-4 in league action, while the Colonels fell to 4-17 and 3-11 in CCC play.
Curry took its largest lead of the game (22-17) after senior A.J. Stephens (Stamford, Conn.) split a pair from the charity stripe with 7:39 left in the first frame. Gordon senior Alex Carnes (Phoenix, Ariz.) sank two free throws to tie the game for the eighth time at 32-32 with 1:15 remaining in the first period. Classmate Park Thomas (Scottsdale, Ariz.) followed with two made free throws, giving the Fight Scots a two-point advantage (34-32) heading into intermission.
With 8:31 left in regulation, Gordon built its largest lead of the game (63-46) when freshman Dominic Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) made a pair of free throws. The Colonels trimmed the lead to 12 (67-55) after senior Thomas McLean (Paxton, Mass.) made a layup with 3:53 on the clock. Curry couldn't pull any closer, as the Fighting Scots maintained their lead, en route to the 70-57 final.
Thomas led Gordon with a team-high 15 points. Junior Hans Miersma (Whitinsville, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 11 points and a game-best 12 rebounds. Carnes added 12 points off of the bench.
Paradis has earned more playing time as the season has worn on, but his performance on Saturday afternoon was by far the best of his young career. The freshman came into the game averaging just a shade less than four points per contest, but his 14 points marked the first double-digit scoring effort at Gordon.
The Colonels were led by junior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) with a game-high 20 points. Senior Lambros Papalambros (Quincy, Mass.) chipped in with 14 points, while Stephens pulled down a team-best six boards.
Both teams return to CCC action on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., as the Colonels host Roger Williams, while the Fighting Scots travel to the University of New England.
