Gordon Rebounds for 10-8 Win over Emerson

Box Score
WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Lacrosse dominated the second half after trailing by as many as two goals in a 10-8 win over visiting Emerson. Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.) notched her second consecutive hat-trick to push the Fighting Scots to 3-1 on the year.

The sting of Tuesday's narrow loss to MIT was hard to forget early as Emerson went on the early attack. The Lions held possession for a good chunk of the first 10 minutes of the first half, netting two goals from Tayllar Righini and Kanika Misra.

Fitzgerald sparked the Scots' offense into gear, as the Scots responded with a three-goal streak. The senior attacker was the first Fighting Scot to get on the board at the 19:40 mark in the first half. Sophomore Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.) nabbed her seventh goal of the year on a pretty assist from Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, Conn.) in front of the net. With just under 15 minutes to play in the half, Rebecca Smith fired a shot past Emerson keeper Victoria Kanaris to give the Scots their first lead of the game at 3-2.

The Lions roared back with a three-goal stretch as well, including two goals within a minute of Smith's goal. Misra finished off her second goal of the game on a free-position attempt to give Emerson a 5-3 with eight minutes to play in the first.

Once again Fitzgerald provided the Scots with the goal they needed with 4:31 left in the half. Jane Dietrich (West Hartford, Conn.) assisted the play for her second helper of the evening. Only a few seconds later, Fitzgerald won the draw control and found Abby Illian (Hillsdale, N.J.) for the easy score—tying the game as the two teams headed to halftime.

The Scots scored the first four goals of the second half—capping off a six-goal run—and five of the first six to give them a 10-6 lead with just over five minutes in regulation. The Lions (3-2-1) added two scores in the final minute, but the Scots held on for the rebound victory, 10-8.

Illian had her first multi-goal game of the season, while Blomberg added her team-leading 13th goal of the year. Danielle Maguire (Braintree, Mass.) made four saves for her third victory of the season.

Gordon enters conference play on Saturday with an away matchup versus Salve Regina at noon.
