Match ResultsSALEM, Mass.—A return to the North Shore was just what Gordon Men's Tennis needed to get back on the winning track. The Scots rolled out to a 2-1 lead in doubles and won five singles matches to hand rival Salem State their second consecutive loss.
Gordon (2-6) got instant support for their top doubles team of Zach Hall (Sugarland, Texas) and Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.), who plowed through the top spot, 8-0. The Scots' second doubles flight fell behind early, but Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) and Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) pulled out an 8-5 victory to give the Scots an early cushion.
Salem State's Luke Hodgkins and Kevin Lam won the final four games at third doubles to claim an 8-5 victory for the Vikings.
With a 2-1 lead, Gordon set their eyes to singles play in hopes of getting their first win of the spring season. Hall led off the action with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Conner Erickson. Daugherty followed suit with a straight-set victory at third singles against Lam. The sophomore dropped the first few games in the first set, but went on a roll to close out his opponent.
Armand guaranteed the victory for the Scots as the fifth point of the match, winning 6-2, 6-0 at fourth singles. Gaudio and Salem State's Sean Rose duked it out in the tightest match of the day at second singles. The Gordon senior fended off Rose to win the first set 6-4, before turning on the jets in the second set, 6-2.
The Scots got their final point of the day at fifth singles, as Dan Christensen (Attleboro, Mass.) won handily 6-0, 6-1 over Davie Dluznieski. Salem State got their second and final point of the evening when Rene Perez won an exciting second-set tiebreaker over Gordon's Dan Dufoe (Malvern, Pa.).
Gordon awaits word of the incoming storm in regards to their next match. A home match with Emerson is tentatively scheduled for this week.
