Women's Lacrosse Rocks Pilgrims on the Road

HENNIKER, N.H. – Gordon College women's lacrosse player Jessica Castelline (Concord, Mass.) finished with three goals and three assists lead the Fighting Scots past the New England College Pilgrims 19-8 Monday afternoon.
With the win the Fighting Scots improve to 5-1 overall, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-5 on the season.
Gordon would open the scoring just 11 seconds into play as Jessica Castelline would put in a her eleventh goal of the season assisted by Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, Mass.).  The Fighting Scots would continue to dominate much of the offense in the opening half as they would build an 8-0 lead, getting an additional score from Castelline and two goals by Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, Conn.) and single tallies from  Stephanie Fitzgerald, Kelly Linehan (White Plains, N.Y.) and Bailey Grinnell (South Hamilton, Mass.).
The Pilgrim offense would battle back late in the opening half as NEC would come through with the three final goals of the half, including two scores by Allison Granata (Norwalk, Conn.) and a goal by Alexa Tardif (Hollis, N.H.).
NEC would get a score by Eleni Hatsis (Norwalk, Conn.) to open the second half scoring but Gordon would respond with four straight goals to go up 11-4 with 25:40 left to play.  The two teams would exchange goals was NEC would trail 15-7 with 17:25 on the clock but the Scots would close out the game out scoring the Pilgrims 4-1 in the final 17 minutes en route to the 19-8 victory.
Gordon finished the game out shooting NEC 31-18, while the NEC held the slight 22-19 advantage in ground balls.
Gordon's Stephanie Fitzgerald finished the game with four goals, two assists and six draw controls, while Blomberg netted three goals, dished out two assists and picked up six draw controls for the Scots.
NEC's Allison Granata finished with three goals, while Alexa Tardif scored two goals and dished out an assist for the Pilgrims.
Picking up the win in net for Gordon College was Danielle Maguire (Braintree, Mass.) who notched three saves on the afternoon.  In net for NEC was Mackenzie Meegan (Phoenix, Ariz.) who finished with eight saves.
NEC returns to action on Wednesday, March 26 when they travel to take on non-conference opponent Smith College.  Gordon will hit the field again on Wednesday, March 26 when they host conference foe Roger Williams University.
