Men's Tennis Doubles Up Anchormen

Match Results
PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Wet conditions and an early start couldn't keep the Gordon Men's Tennis team from winning their second match in a row. The Scots fell behind after doubles play, but won five of the six singles matches to earn a 6-3 triumph over host Rhode Island College.

The Fighting Scots improve to 3-6 on the year, while Rhode Island College drops to 0-1 after falling in its season opener.

RIC jumped ahead of the visitors on Saturday following a solid effort in doubles play. Sophomore Timothy Holzinger (Foster, RI) and freshman Seongyeong Kim (North Providence, RI) earned an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles, while junior Sean Raudonaitis (Westport, MA) and freshman Mohammed Kattan (Cranston, RI) dispatched their opponents at No. 3 doubles (9-8, 7-4).

Gordon could only wrangle a win at first doubles, where Zach Hall (Sugarland, TX) and Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, NY) won easily, 8-2.

The Fighting Scots rebounded to win five out of the six singles flights en route to the, 6-3, victory. Sophomore Hall and senior Gaudio were victorious at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, only dropping five total games between them.

Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) and Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) finished off their perfect weeks in singles play. Daugherty fended of Brett Taggart in a second-set tiebreaker to notch his second consecutive win at third singles. Armand was the victim of several three-set losses during the team's spring break trip, but has rebounded with two wins, including a 6-1, 7-5 win over Kim at the fourth flight.

Dan Christensen (Attleboro, Mass.) continued his steady singles play with a straight-set, 6-3, 6-1 rally over Raudonaitis in the fifth slot.

In upcoming action, Rhode Island College travels to Suffolk on Tuesday, April 1 (6:30 p.m.) for a non-conference match with the Rams. Gordon hosts Endicott on Tuesday afternoon for its conference opener at 4 p.m.
