Golden Bears Double Up Fighting Scots

Match Results
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Gordon Men's Tennis dropped its third consecutive match, losing to host Western New England, 6-3. The Fighting Scots looked poised to end their short Commonwealth Coast Conference losing streak, but lost two tight singles matches to swing the match in the Golden Bears' favor.

Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) won both his singles and doubles matches for the 10th time during his sophomore season to lead the Scots. Gordon's ace dropped three games in a first set to Alexander Sause, but bageled his opponent in the second set for his fourth conference win. Hall and his doubles partner Kenny Gaudio (Miller Place, N.Y.) also pitched an 8-5 win over Sause and Andres Otero.

A reshuffled doubles lineup at the lower flights hoped to garner different results for the Fighting Scots. Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Daniel Dufoe (Malvern, Pa.) took a few games to get warm, but came on strong in the end of an 8-6 loss at third doubles. The Golden Bears took an 8-2 win at second doubles, beating new duo Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) and Dan Christensen (Attleboro, Mass.).

John Mindek gave the Golden Bears their third point of the day by beating Daniel Alvarado (Bedford, N.H.) at sixth singles. Armand brought the Scots back with an easy 6-1, 6-2 win over Tyler Unwin at fourth singles. The sophomore's wins at fourth singles has been one of the biggest revelations for the team in recent matches.

Adam Zimmerman got back Christensen in straight sets by the identical score of 6-3, 6-3, putting the Golden Bears within a point of clinching the match. They finally clinched when Gaudio was downed by Otero in a hard-fought, 7-5, 7-5 match at the second flight. Western New England completed its 6-3 win when Peter LeFrancois bested Daugherty in three sets.

Things don't get any easier for the Scots with preseason second seed Roger Williams coming to Wenham on Tuesday afternoon.
