Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gulls Fly Over Fighting Scots 68-52

WENHAM, Mass.—Four Endicott Women's Basketball players scored in double figures, including 19 from junior guard Nicole Caitzone (Woburn, Mass.), as the Gulls handled host Gordon 68-52. The Fighting Scots held tough in the first half thanks to 15 first-half points from Olivia Vetere (Mahopac, N.Y.), but Endicott's length inside proved to be a difference maker in the end result.

Endicott (9-9) never trailed in the game, jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead in the opening minute of play. Gordon battled back to eventually draw the game square at 11 points a side, but a 17-6 run by the Gulls over a nine-minute span put the hosts down by double-digits as they approached the half. The Fighting Scots never allowed the game to get too far out of reach and a deep three by Vetere just before the buzzer cut Endicott's lead down to 35-29 after the first period.

Vetere and Endicott's Hannah Shaw (Bar Harbor, Maine) dueled in the first half with 15 and 14 points respectively. The 14-point effort was a career high in a game for Shaw. Both teams were extremely efficient from the field with Endicott turning in a 48.3-percent effort and Gordon coming in at a 46.2 clip.

The Gulls looked even better in the second half, draining their first four attempts of the period to quickly grow the lead to 14 points. Gordon crept back with 8 points with 5:20 to go, but an offensive drought lasted the remainder of the game and Endicott converted its free throws to ice the game.

Catizone led the Gulls with 19 points—13 coming in the second frame—while also generating four assists and four thefts. Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) gave the Scots fits all afternoon, finishing with 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Shaw did not score in the second half, but still picked up a 14 and nine rebound statline, while Kayleen Whall (Foxboro, Mass.) pitched in 11 points at a forward spot.

Endicott shot an impressive 71.4-percent from behind the arc in the second half and made nearly half their attempts from the floor for the game. The Gulls forced 20 Gordon turnovers and came up with 14 steals to boot. Endicott also outrebounded Gordon 36-30 for the entire contest.

Vetere had another career game with 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting, including three made triples. Mariel Barner (Colorado Springs, Colo.) continued her impressive week with 15 points, three assists and two steals. Brooke Kratche (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) was the only other Gordon played in double figures with 11 points, while leading the Scots with seven boards.

Gordon posted its second best shooting percentage of the season despite the loss. The Scots fall to 3-15 overall and 1-10 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference.

Endicott returns home on Tuesday for a 5:30 matchup with Salve Regina, while Gordon goes back on the road at Western New England on the same date.
