MILTON, Mass.—Gordon Men's Basketball ran its win streak to four games with a 58-49 triumph over Curry College. Senior
Taylor Bajema (Whitinsville, Mass.) returned to the lineup and teamed up with
Jason Dempsey (Wallingford, Conn.) to the tune of a combined 30 points in the victory. Gordon improves to .500 for the first time on the year at 6-6 overall, while Curry falls to 2-10.
With the scored tied at 6-6, Gordon went on a 12-2 run to establish an 18-8 lead at 11:35 of the opening frame. The visitors would lead by as many as 18 points (30-12) after sophomore
Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass.) made a layup with four minutes to go before intermission. But Curry ended the half on a 10-2 run and trailed by 10 heading into the break.
The Colonels mounted a furious comeback to begin the second half, and briefly took the lead at 38-36 on a made jumper by junior Danny Brooks (Boston, Mass.) with just under 13 minutes remaining in the game. But the Fighting Scots regained the momentum, and went on to double up the hosts over the final stretch, 22-11, and secured the nine-point victory.
Bajema and Dempsey each scored 15 points to lead the Fighting Scots. Dempsey also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds. Sophomore
Dominic Paradis (Rochester, N.H.) chipped in with nine points on three baskets from beyond the arc and finished second on the team with eight rebounds.
Jaren Yang (San Francisco, Calif.) had six rebounds and three assists.
Junior Danny Brooks (Boston, Mass.) paced Curry with a game-high 18 points and a team-best eight rebounds. Senior Antonio Jones (Dorchester, Mass.) scored 15 points, while classmate Matt Russell (South Portland, Maine) grabbed seven boards.
Both teams resume conference play on Saturday, with Gordon hosting Salve Regina for a 3:00 p.m. contest and Curry traveling to Endicott for a 1:00 p.m. game.
