Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Breton Saves the Day in Overtime

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Soccer won its second conference game of the season, beating host Nichols 1-0 in overtime on Saturday. Senior midfielder Jamie Breton (Concord, N.H.) was the hero for the Scots on a feed from Kiersten Klose (Concord, N.H.).

The Scots improve to 4-6-3 and 2-3-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference, while Nichols drops to 2-11-1 and 0-6 in the CCC.

Gordon dominated possession for most of the game by putting up a 35-9 advantage in shots for the game. Nichols goalkeeper Kelly English made 14 saves in regulation to keep the frustrated Scots off the scoreboard.

The Fighting Scots were nearly back to full strength on Saturday after getting back McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) and Kaitlyn Hawn (Woodbury, Minn.) from injury. Hawn, a senior anchor on defense, had not played since September, while Dion sat out the non-conference loss to Worcester State.

Gordon was able to break through in the 98th minute after their first two attempts in the period were put wide. Breton received a cross from Klose at the eight-minute mark into overtime and forced English to try another tough save. The Nichols' netminder got a hand on it, but could not stop Breton's eighth goal from crossing the line for the winner.

Dion made six save for the Fighting Scots.

Gordon will look to keep its conference playoff hopes alive when they host the University of New England on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
