Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots Pull Off Senior Day Shocker in OT

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Soccer scored twice in the final 21 minutes of play, including a game-winner in overtime, to stun visiting UNE 2-1. Senior Jamie Breton (Concord, N.H.) celebrated her final game in Wenham by finding the head of Kaelyn Silveira (Bristol, R.I.) just a minute into the OT period to take down the first-place Nor'easters.

The Fighting Scots improve to 5-6-3 overall and 3-3-1 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. UNE drops just its second CCC game and sits at 5-2 in the conference. The Nor'easters hold an overall mark of 10-5.

UNE looked like the stronger team over the first 45 minutes, as they peppered Gordon with 13 shots in the opening half.  Their non-stop attack eventually landed them a close proximity opportunity in the 27th minute off the foot of Jackie Dickerson (Windham, N.H.). Becca Murphy (Durham, N.H.) settled a ball just outside the six-yard box and flicked ball to the left of the Gordon net. Littlefield ran onto it and punched it around Mackenzie Dion (No. Grafton, Mass.) for the score.

Gordon tried to get some momentum back in its favor over the final 10 minutes of the half, but could only muster one shot. Dion made nine saves for the Scots in the first half.

The second half played far more even, as Gordon was able to get its offense going up the wings. UNE was still able to put a few quick shots on goal in the first 10 minutes of the second frame, including one off the post by Harley Chute (Salem, N.H.).

Gordon's third shot of the game proved to be a good one. At the 68th minute mark, Kara Dry (Madison, Conn.) brought the ball down the right side of the field and centered in a cross to the top of the 18. Naomi Shearer (Hampden, Maine) headed the ball back to Lauren Hayes (Wantage, N.J.), who sent a curling shot into the left corner of the net from outside of the fray.

The two teams both traded near misses in the closing minutes, but the game headed to overtime 1-1.

Jill Kefalas (Wenham, Mass.) stole the opening tip-off in the overtime period and earned Gordon a corner just a minute into the 10-minute frame. Breton sent a perfect ball over the top of the defense and found Silveira running in toward the back post.

Brielle Robinson (Monson, Mass.) made four saves in net for the Nor'easters, while Dion finished with 14 stops.  UNE outshot the Scots 15-6 on frame for the contest and earned a 5-1 advantage in corners.

The Nor'easters finish the season with two home games against Eastern Nazarene and Roger Williams. UNE has already clinched a CCC playoff appearance despite the loss. Gordon still has work to do with away games at perennial favorites Roger Williams and Endicott.
