Gulls Edge Scots in Overtime

WENHAM, Mass.—Endicott's Sophia Cogliano (Saugus, Mass.) ended a scoreless deadlock six minutes into the first overtime period to spoil Gordon's Homecoming game at the Brigham Athletic Complex.

The story for the majority of the game was Gordon's fortified defense. Once again the Fighting Scots struggled to find any consistency on the offensive end, but their junior-laden defense remained steady despite waves of Endicott attacks.

Gordon was outshot 10-0 in regulation and had an 8-1 disadvantage in penalty corners against the rival Gulls, but goalkeeper Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) notched one of the best performances in her two years as a starter. The junior made nine saves in the contest to keep Gordon within striking distance throughout.

Endicott took advantage of the space offered by 7-vs-7 play during the overtime period. They fended off a Gordon attack and countered with a short-handed fast break the other way. Cogliano was sprung free in the midfield and she was able to beat Hicks on the break to score the golden goal in the 76th minute.

The Gulls finished with 12 shots and 10 on goal. Gordon earned one shot in the overtime period, which went just a few feet wide of the frame.

Endicott improves to 7-5 this season and 5-1 in the CCC, while winning its third straight game. They have a four-day rest before hosting Bates on Wednesday. Gordon drops its sixth consecutive game and falls to 2-8 on the year. The Scots will look to get back on track on Tuesday with another home contest against Roger Williams.
