Kilgore, Nelson Lead Scots to Top Five Finishes at UNE

Men's Results / Women's Results
BIDDEFORD, Maine—For the second time in as many weeks, Damon Kilgore (Londonderry, N.H.) bested his competition for an individual win at the UNE Invitational on Saturday. Junior Emily Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) improved on her performance from last week and finished seventh overall in the women's race.

The Gordon men finished fifth of the 17 teams in the field, while the Scots' women grabbed a third-place finish out of 16 teams.

UNE took the men's title by placing all five of their scorers in the top 11 racers. Wentworth and Endicott also had top five finishes at Commonwealth Coast Conference foes.  The Nor'easters took the women's crown as well, with five of the first six finishes coming from UNE. Endicott narrowly edged out the Fighting Scots by four points.

Kilgore dominated the men's field in the 8K race, finishing in a time of 26:44.7 and a split time of 5:23. Plymouth State's Samuel Brunette came in second place, almost a full minute behind the Gordon sophomore. Andrew Manning (Amman, Jordan) was the second Gordon finisher with a time of 29:33.7, while Alex Russell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) crossed the line in 32nd. Freshmen Daniel McCutcheon (Smithfield, R.I.) and Josef Bandy (Wilmore, Ky.) rounded out the scoring for the Scots.

Kilgore was just five seconds off his career best in an 8K race, which he ran in his second collegiate race at the UNE Invitational last year.

In the women's 5K race, Nelson was the second non-UNE athlete to cross the finish line with a time of 20:34.5. Senior Mariah Geiger (Londonderry, N.H.) also had a very good race for the Gordon side, putting forth a 10th-place finish. Key efforts from Louisa Dodds and Hannah Fisher in 18th and 20th sent Gordon to third overall.

The Fighting Scots have two weeks off from competition before hosting the Pop Crowell Invitational on September 26th
