QUINCY, Mass.—Gordon Volleyball opened up its Commonwealth Coast Conference slate on a high note by beating host Eastern Nazarene in straight sets. Gordon improves to 8-6 on the season heading into a matchup with Salve Regina on Saturday.
Gordon grabbed a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 victory in the first set. The guests picked up a 25-13 win in the second frame to take a 2-0 advantage.
Eastern Nazarene raced out to an 11-4 lead to ignite the crowd in a thrilling third set. The Fighting Scots battled back to level the set at 19-19 before scoring six of the final nine points to secure their first conference victory.
The Scots more than doubled their opponents kills on the evening, holding a 56 to 25 advantage. Freshman Mackenzie Hinds (Higganum, Conn.) led all players with 14 kills, while Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.) added eight. Renee Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) put up 10 assists in one set of work, while freshman Sidney Eisler (Stockton, Calif.) set up 25 in relief.
Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio) dug 14 balls for the Scots defense.
