Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Gulls Fly Away with 81-50 Win at Scots

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Basketball had three players in double-figure scoring, but could not overcome a standout performance by senior Kelsey Cuddy (Madison, Conn.) in an 81-50 loss to crosstown rival Endicott.

Gordon falls to 4-11 this season and 0-8 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Endicott improves to 7-1 in the CCC to keep pace with the upper echelon of the conference. They also sit at 9-6 overall.

Endicott's tough half-court defense was a frustration for the Fighting Scots in the opening quarter and the Gulls were able to capitalize off of forced turnovers on the other end of the floor. Endicott scored the first 11 points of the game, as all five starters got into the offensive action during the early spurt.

Olivia Stark (Arvada, Colo.) sparked the Scot offense after she entered into the game at the point and scored Gordon's first bucket at the 3:54 mark of the first quarter. Endicott kept its double-digit lead for a majority of the rest of the quarter, but Stark's presence helped keep the game from getting out of hand. The freshman notched assists on two Kristen Smith (Littleton, Mass.) baskets and had another pass to Smith that led to free throw opportunities.

The Scots had the chance to close the gap to as few as five in the final seconds of the period, but Endicott's Gabrielle Coppola (Watertown, Mass.) stole an outlet pass and made a jumper before the horn for a 19-9 lead.

After Endicott built up a larger lead to begin the second quarter, Gordon scored on three straight possessions to close it back to a single-digit deficit. However, just a few seconds later, Endicott's Ilyza Homan (Ashland, Mass.) hit a deep three to put the Gulls up by double-digits for good.

  • Cuddy finished just above her season average in points with 18 and also had an eye-popping six steals for the Gulls.

  • Senior Caity Lowry (Quincy, Mass.) finished with 10 points and seven boards, leading the visitors in that category.
  • Sophomore Hannah Kiernan (Wenham, Mass.) led the Gulls with four assists and also added nine points.
  • The Gulls shooting percentages were here across the board including making 21 of 25 free-throw attempts.
