Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Scots Surpass Century Mark in Dominant Home Win

WENHAM, Mass.—The offense was locked in for Gordon Men's Basketball on Saturday afternoon as the Fighting Scots dismantled visiting Curry 103-64 in Commonwealth Coast Conference action. Fourteen Gordon players made at least one bucket in the Scots biggest win of the season, while the Colonels dropped their 13th game in a row to begin the year.

Curry falls to 0-13 and 0-6 in the CCC. Gordon put together its first three-game win streak of the season and gets back above .500 at 7-6. The Fighting Scots sit just one game out of the top spot in the CCC after a 3-0 week in conference play.

The Fighting Scots controlled the game from cover to cover, opening an 8-0 lead less than two minutes into the contest. A flurry of points allowed the Colonels to get back within one point at 13-12, but the Scots put together an 11-2 run to secure a double-digit lead.

Curry only managed to get back within 10 points one time for the rest of the game.

Second chance opportunities played a major factor for the Scots, as Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass.) and Udoka Obiora (Boston, Mass.) combined for 12 offensive boards—double Curry's output as a team. Gordon had a season-high plus 33 rebound margin—58-25.

For the Foes:
  • Trey Jones (Mattapan, Mass.) had a team-high 18 points in 31 minutes for the Colonels. The junior guard was efficient from the floor and the free-throw line.
  • Forward James Pina (Warwick, R.I.) and freshman guard Rael Handy (No. Easton, Mass.) each had 13 points. Pina also had a game-high five blocks despite coming into the day with only three.
For the Scots:
  • Eric Demers (W. Wareham, Mass.) had 18 points in just 21 minutes.
  • Johnson continued his tear with 11 points and 14 rebounds for his third straight double-double.
  • Freshmen guards Jake Haar (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Noah Szilagyi (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) also had double-figures off the bench. Haar was 5-of-6 from behind the arch and perfect at the line. Szilagyi struggled from the floor, but made all six of his free throw attempts for 11 points.
Quick Notes
  • 14 players scoring in a game is a season high for Gordon
  • Gordon scored 100 or more points for the first time since beating Hunter 100-67 in November of 2004.
  • Haar took the CCC lead in 3-point percentage at 46.6 after his big performance.
  • Gordon improved its conference best rebound margin to 9.9 per game.
  • Senior Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) made his season debut after returning from injury.
