BEVERLY, Mass.—Gordon Volleyball suffered a tough three-set defeat at the hands of rival Endicott on Tuesday evening. After besting the Gulls in two matchups last season, Gordon dropped its second consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference match 25-16, 25-19, 25-18.
Endicott's offense hit on all cylinders for a majority of the night, hitting its third best mark of the season with a .294 average. The Gulls took advantage of a negative hitting performance by the Fighting Scots in the opening set and managed to stay just a bit ahead of the visitors despite Gordon hitting much better in the final two frames. Endicott hit a season-high 43 kills in a three-set match.
Gordon's best chance at clawing back into the match came in the third set when they led right out of the chute 10-5. Endicott was forced into taking one of its two timeouts, but chipped away at the Gordon advantage coming out of the break to retake a 13-12 lead. The Scots briefly regained the lead at 14-13, but Endicott went on a 6-0 run and closed things out down the stretch to win in three.
Senior Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.) led the Scots with 10 kills and 10 digs. Meghan Hokanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) and Jamie Tafoya (Fort Collins, Colo.) also had efficient nights on offense with five and six kills respectively. Renee Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) pitched in 25 assists.
Gordon will look to get back in the swing of things when they head to Medford this weekend to take on Colby and Tufts.
