Leopards Pounce for Five Goals to Beat Scots

WENHAM, Mass.--An offensive showcase in the second half gave Wentworth a 5-0 win over host Gordon on Saturday afternoon on the Quad. The Scots suffered their largest defeat of the season and Wentworth stayed atop the Commonwealth Coast Conference standings with its fifth win.

The Fighting Scots dropped their third straight game of the week and dip below .500 for the first time in two weeks at 6-7-1. Gordon sits at 2-3-1 in the CCC. Wentworth stays hot in conference play with a 5-0-1 mark and 10-3-2 overall.

Wentworth held a comfortable advantage in shots for a majority of the game. After the Scots put an early chance on goal, the Leopards kept the pressure in Gordon's defensive third for the rest of the first half.

The Leopards insistent offense combined with an injury to freshman keeper Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) led to several opportunities in the middle of regulation. Wentworth put its first on the scoreboard in the 29th minute when Sidney Brogan (Los Angeles, Calif.) intercepted a ball in the middle and took it in for the score.

Wentworth led 1-0 at the break, but registered a flurry of scoring at the beginning of the second half to put things out of reach. The Leopards scored three times between the 51st and 58th minutes, as junior standout Emily Richard (Fremont, N.H.) had her hand in all three. The midfielder assisted the first and second goals of the half on pretty attempts for Amanda Weinberger (Colchester, Conn.) and Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.). Richard added a goal herself in the 58th minute, finishing home a pass from Madyson Reno (Simi Valley, Calif) in the center of the box.

Senior Kristen Carroll (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished off the final score of the day for the Leopards in the 70th minute.

Freshman keeper Jordan Bellamy (Washington, D.C.) was credited with the loss despite making seven saves in relief of Denty. Sophomore keeper Micaela Robinson (Goshey, N.Y.) stopped three Gordon shots to earn her sixth win.

The Fighting Scots will look to break a three-game skid on Wednesday with a trip to Salve Regina. Wentworth has a good chance to keeping its stranglehold atop the conference with a home game against ENC on Wednesday afternoon.
