Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Colonels Defend Turf from Scots

MILTON, Mass.- The Curry College Women's Soccer team celebrated their Senior Night with a 1-0 result over Gordon on a rainy Friday evening at Walter M. Katz Field. The Colonels scored a minute into the second half and staved off a Scots rally to secure their place in front of the Scots in the Commonwealth Coast Conference standings.

With the win the Colonels improve to 9-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the CCC.  The loss drops the Fighting Scots to 6-8-2 on the season and 2-4-2 in the CCC.

The teams battled each other over the first 45 minutes of play to a 0-0 halftime score.  Gordon held the advantage in shots at 6-3.  Five of the Fighting Scots shots were on net but solid play between the pipes by Curry's senior goaltender Morgan Stott (Dartmouth, Mass.) held them scoreless.  The Fighting Scots goaltender Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) stopped two of the shots she faced on net.

The Colonels came out strong in the second half and with just 56 seconds off the clock they netted the eventual game-winner.  Senior Kaitlyn Lima (New Bedford, Mass.) sent classmate Brianna Fitzsimmons (East Haven, Conn.) a through pass into the 18-yard box.  Fitzsimmons collected the ball and shot it low into the corner of the past the glove of Denty.

Gordon outshot Curry 14-11. Both teams each had two corner kicks. Despite Gordon possessing in its offensive zone for large chunks of the game, they were unable to break a scoring drought that is now spread over nine halves. After exploding for seven goals in two games, Gordon has been unable to put one in the net since Lexi Potter (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) put the Scots up in a 2-1 loss to Maine Maritime back on October 10.

Stott earned the shutout and victory in goal for the Colonels with seven saves. Denty made five stops in net for the Fighting Scots in the loss.

Curry finishes their regular season when they travel to Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Eastern Nazarene on Tuesday, October 25 for a 9:00 p.m. game.  Gordon will host Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Endicott in their final game of the regular season also on Tuesday, October 25 at 3:00 p.m.
