SALEM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Volleyball pull its record back to .500 with a dominant performance at North Shore rival Salem State on a cold, rainy Thursday night (Oct. 27). The Fighting Scots cruised to their second straight three-set victory heading into the squad's regular season finale at Western New England on Saturday.
The Fighting Scots improve their ledger to 13-13 on the season, while the Vikings dip to 6-22. Gordon continues its seven-match win streak over the hosts, but made it the first shutout of the Vikings during that span.
Carleigh Petersen (North Hills, Calif.) continued her solid two-week stretch, adding 15 more kills to season total for a .265 hitting percentage.
Amanda Snyder (San Jose, Calif.) and
Meghan Hokanson (Coon Rapids, Minn.) each added five kills apiece.
The Vikings came out to a 4-2 lead, but Gordon's offense came alive by the midpoint of the opening set. The Fighting Scots put together two runs of five or more points to pull away from the home team and secured a 25-15 win in the opener.
Gordon and Salem played to nine points all in the second set before the Scots were able to win six of seven points to open up a comfortable advantage at 15-10. Salem State was able to close the gap to three points on two separate occasions, but could not get any closer than that in a 25-20 second game.
The Fighting Scots won the first eight points of the third set thanks in part to a host of mistakes committed by the Vikings. Gordon never allowed the Vikings to get going and led by as many as 14 points in the late stages of the game before closing things out at 25-14.
Snyder was the only Scot player in double-digit digs with 12, while
Maggie Risma (Hudson, Ohio) contributed nine fresh off her record-setting performance on Tuesday.
Renee Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) finished with 27 assists.
Gordon's regular season finale at Western New England has plenty riding on it as the Fighting Scots can secure a number of different seedings in next week's Commonwealth Coast Conference tournament depending on the result.
