Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Scots Shutdown Vikings 4-1

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon Women's Soccer continued its seesaw season with an impressive 4-1 result over visiting Salem State University on Tuesday night under the lights. The Fighting Scots built up a 4-0 lead before the Vikings added a late one for the end result in a rivalry matchup.

Gordon looked sharp on its first game at the Brigham Turf, showing a possession-heavy game that led to several scoring chances in the early going. A corner kick in the 10th minute gave Gordon its first score of the contest, as Devin Lacroix (Candia, N.H.) set up a perfect service in the box. Kay Silveira (Bristol, R.I.) headed a ball to the back post where Tori Caswell (Uxbridge, Mass.) offered a shot on goal. The ball smacked off the bottom of the crossbar, leaving Silveira to follow the shot and poke it in for the 1-0 advantage.

The Fighting Scots put another one on the board in the 19th minute, when Chandler Stier (Redlands, Calif.) finished off her first goal of the season. A miscommunication in the Salem defensive half left Stier alone with the ball and no one between her and the net. The senior passed it into the net for her first goal since her sophomore season.

Gordon put a cap on a busy first half when rookie striker Lexi Potter (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) finished off a beautiful through ball from Silveira. Potter received the ball in stride from about 30 yards out and beat her defender to the 18 before unleashing a strike to the top center of net.

The Fighting Scots held a 9-4 shot advantage in the first half.

Caswell avenged her near miss from the first half by sending a punishing header for a goal in the 59th minute. Lacroix added her first assist of the game with a nice ball over the top off of a corner, meeting the head of Caswell as she ran off a screen at the top of the box.

Casey McFall (Wilmington, Mass.) added Salem's only goal of the game in the final minute of regulation. The freshman followed a ball that skirted under the feet of a Gordon defender on a pass back and beat the Gordon keeper with a ball tucked inside the right corner.

Amanda Backe (Danvers, Mass.) made three stops for the Vikings, while another defender kept one out of the net for four total saves. Kali Denty (Marshfield, Mass.) picked up her fifth win, making one save in 75 minutes of work for the Scots.

Gordon (5-4-1) has a few days off before heading down to Eastern Nazarene for a matchup with major Commonwealth Coast Conference implications. Salem State (2-8-1) will look to rebound at home against Bridgewater State on Saturday afternoon.
