WENHAM, Mass.—Endicott Field Hockey kept pace atop the Commonwealth Coast Conference with a 2-0 at Gordon on Saturday morning. The Gulls scored once in each period and held the Scots' counter in check to secure a regular-season sweep of the hosts.
Gordon has its two-game win streak snapped and now sits just outside of the CCC playoff picture at 2-5 in conference play. Endicott improves to 7-5 overall and 6-1 in the CCC, with its lone loss coming against undefeated UNE.
The Gulls controlled possession in their end throughout, totaling 29 shots to only three for the home side. To Gordon's credit, their defensive held up well to the constant pressure and did not allow a point until the 34th minute. Endicott's Emylee Wood (Kensington, N.H) had two goals in the Gulls 3-1 victory over Gordon two weeks ago and she added another one to her series total with an unassisted strike just before the half.
Shannon Hicks (Scarborough, Maine) made five saves in the first half and 11 overall. Endicott's only point of the first half came directly off a defensive save by Briana Kowolenko (Brooklyn, Conn.).
Endicott ramped up the pressure in the second half with 15 penalty corners and 13 shot attempts, but again Gordon's defensive kept its side in the game. The Gulls persistence eventually paid off in the 68th minute when Maggie O'Reilly (Cheshire, Conn.) finished off a penalty corner feed from Samantha Crowley (Leicester, Mass.), putting Gordon in a 2-0 hole.
Bailey Balmer (Perkasie, Pa.) added another defensive save to her ledger in the second half.
Gordon will look to rebound in a pivotal CCC matchup on Wednesday when they travel to Springfield to take on Western New England, who firmly maintains the third seed heading into the final half of the schedule.
