Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Offense Grooving in CCC Triumph

QUINCY, Mass.—The streak continues onward for the Gordon Men's Soccer team, as the Fighting Scots put three on the board in the first half and never looked back in a dominant victory over Eastern Nazarene. The Scots ran their win streak to seven games with a 7-0 performance under the lights and stayed tied for the Commonwealth Coast Conference lead through five games.

Gordon got the scoring started in the 22nd minute with freshman phenom Matt Chartier (Concord, N.H.) scoring his seventh of the season. The midfielder sent a ball just under the crossbar from outside the 18-yard box to give the Scots the early lead.

Much as they did on Tuesday against Salem State, Gordon's offense scored in bunches throughout the game. Gordon had shown the propensity to get on opponents quickly and the Scots added two quick goals at the end of the first to break open the game. Freshman reserve Mark Smith (Cincinnati, Ohio) added his third goal of the season on a ball from Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.). Smith poked in a ball that trickled across the mouth of the goal. Josh Cochran (Bellville, Ohio) put in another just a minute later on a 40-yard bomb that went just under the crossbar out of the reach of Victor Mendoza (Cathedral, Calif.).
Gordon dominated possession again in the second half, not allowing the Lions to attempt a shot until the 63rd minute of regulation. The Fighting Scots were quiet for the first 20 minutes of the second period, but again exploded for a handful of goals in a short amount of time.

Ben Gradert (Hudsdon, Ohio) headed home his first goal of the season on a double assist from Danny Nkhalamba (Concord, N.H.) and Jerry Williams (Royersford, Pa.) off a corner. Smith put in his second goal of the day in the 76th minute on a perfect header thanks to the cross from Michael Cuocci (Baltimore, Md.).

Williams scored his second and third goals of the season in less than a minute's time between the 78th and 79th minutes, both off of crosses from Ricardo Infantozzi (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

Josh Spoonhour (Greencastle, Pa.) posted his fifth straight shutout and sixth in seven games. He made four stops, all in the final 30 minutes of regulation. Mendoza made seven saves for the Lions.

Gordon has a few days off before a big home test against non-conference foe Rhode Island College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
