Women Claim Win in Meet Split with Bridgewater State

WENHAM, Mass.—Gordon and Bridgewater State split a pair of swimming matchups on Saturday afternoon at the Bennett Aquatic Center. The Bears took the men's matchup, while Gordon edged their opponents on the women's side 139-121.

The Gordon women improved to 3-2 on the season in head-to-head meets and remained unbeaten at the Bennett Center with the program's second win in as many weeks.

Women's Highlights
  • The tightly contested women's matchup began with Gordon's top 200 Medley team edge out Bridgewater State by less than a second.
  • Amber Collard (Yorba Linda, Calif.) continued her strong rookie season with a sizeable victory in the 1,000 Free by 14 seconds. Collard also won the 50 Fly in a dead sprint.
  • Caris Lyons (Orrville, Ohio) claimed the third victory of the day for the Scots with a 2:08 showing in the 200 Free. Lyons added another win later in the day in the 100 Free, as Gordon took the top three spots in the event.
  • Jena Jekums (Anaheim, Calif.) made it four straight event wins with a slight win in the 50 back over teammate Alex Hall (Boca Raton, Fla.). The Gordon freshman turned in a 30.75 mark compared to 31.43 for Hall.
  • Bridgewater State won two straight events in the 50 Breast and 100 Fly, but Abby Bacon (Sacramento, Calif.) became the third Gordon rookie to take an individual event with a 28:01 pace in the 50 Free.
  • Hall avenged her close loss earlier in the day with an impressive showing in the 100 Back, taking down top seeded Adi Tobias (No. Attleboro, Mass.) by three seconds.
  • Junior Alexa Bragg (Trumbull, Conn.) finished in the top spot in the 500 Free for the first time this season, beating the second-place finisher by nearly 20 seconds.
  • Gordon made it a clean sweep of the relays on Saturday as the 200 Free team grabbed first with a 1:46 time, four seconds better than their seed.
 
Men's Highlights
  • First-year Aaron Lewis (Mystic, Conn.) was sharp in the men's 1,000 by taking the even by nearly 40 seconds.
  • Dean Drukker (Bedford, N.H.) squeaked by BSU's Max Medina (Marion, Mass.)  in the 100 Free with a time of 52.24.
  • Jack Cicchelli (Middletown, R.I.) and Langdon Kessner (Rochester, N.Y.) took all the points in the 400 IM.
