Cole, Gradert Earn High Marks from NSCAA

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Senior Caleb Cole (Coatesville, Pa.) ended his career on a high note by becoming the first Gordon player to be named a three-time All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, as announced on Thursday evening. Cole was named to the regional first team and to the national second team. Junior Ben Gradert (Hudson, Ohio) was named to the NSCAA All-New England list for the second straight year.

Cole will go down as one of the best players to ever don a Fighting Scots uniform after concluding his career with 36 goals and 33 assists. The three-time Commonwealth Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Year finished second in the league in scoring behind Wentworth's Noah Martins, but was second in the nation in assists heading into the NCAA Division III tournament. Cole remains second in assist average and fourth in total assists as the Final Four begins this weekend in Virginia.

The shifty midfielder was Gordon's leading scorer in three of his four seasons in Wenham and was a major award winner in the conference in all four. He won the CCC Rookie of the Year award in 2013 after leading the team in assists.

Cole saved his best offensive season for last, putting up nine goals and 16 assists on the year. In a dominant win over Curry, Cole assisted on four goals which was the best in a single game in the country this fall. The mark is also the highest single-game total in known archived history of the program.

A year after being named the CCC's best defensive player, Gradert continued to make himself known as a major force in Gordon's defensive unit. The Fighting Scots carried another stingy unit, shutting out their opponents in nine of their 12 victories, including a 1-0 win against national semifinalist Tufts in September.

Gordon finished its season in the CCC semifinal round with a 12-5-1 record and return eight of 11 starters to the 2017 squad.
