WENHAM, Mass.—Daniel Webster shook off an early deficit to hand Gordon its worst loss of the season 84-68 in non-conference men's basketball action. The Fighting Scots took control of the game in the early going, but the Eagles' relentless defensive pressure and hot hand in the second half allowed them to pull away from the hosts.
Gordon drops to 6-3 on the season, snapping a four-game win streak in the process. The Fighting Scots are now 2-2 at the Bennett Center this year. Daniel Webster continues its strong push to begin 2016-17 and sits at 6-1 heading into a matchup with Fisher on Tuesday.
The Fighting Scots could not miss over the first three minutes and change to begin the game, scoring 11 straight points to open a double-digit advantage. Senior Ray Farmer (Nashua, N.H.) got the Eagles' offense going with back-to-back buckets in a 20-second span as a part of a 10-0 response.
Daniel Webster took its first lead of the game at 14-13 and outscored the Scots the rest of the half to take a 31-25 advantage into the locker rooms.
Gordon's bigs did their best to keep the Fighting Scots in the game in the second half, scoring the team's first 13 points of the half. However, Daniel Webster became a dangerous team from the outside in the second period as Antwaun Boyd (Stamford, Conn.) helped grow the visitors lead with consecutive triples. The Eagles shot 56.3 in the second half and over 50 percent for the game to balloon their lead to an insurmountable amount as the game drew closer to final.
The Fighting Scots made one final push with a couple of made threes, but a consistent offensive effort allowed the Eagles to close things out.
Marquise Caudill (Windsor, Conn.) scored a team-high 18 and had two steals for the Eagles. Farmer and Boyd each had 12 points as starters, while Michael Campbell (Mount Vernon, N.Y.) added the same amount off of the bench. Jared Harrington (Upper Marlboro, Md.) had a quiet 10 points with three assists and three steals.
Farmer, a senior, is two points away from reaching the 1,000-point plateau for his career. He had five assists to lead the team on Saturday.
Garrisson Duvivier (Brockton, Mass.) had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Gordon, while Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass.) finished with above his season average with 17 boards. The Fighting Scots held an 11-rebound advantage over their opponents. Jake Haar (Huntington Beach, Calif.) was the only other Scot in double-figures with 15 on 5-of-7 shooting from behind the arch.
Gordon had a season-high 20 assists.
The Fighting Scots are back in action next Friday when they head to Becker for the last game of the fall semester.
