MILTON, Mass.—Gordon Men's Basketball closed out its 2015-16 regular season with a good showing at Curry on Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots got to the .500 mark in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with an 88-72 victory, spoiling the host Colonels senior day festivities.
Gordon's victory and Roger Williams' loss to Wentworth ensures the Scots a trip to Beverly on Tuesday to take on Endicott as the fifth seed in the conference tournament. The game will be played at 5:30 p.m.
Gordon started the game off on a 7-0 run in the first 1:30 of the game. Curry got onto the board 1:51 into the half when James Pina netted a lay-up unassisted. Action would continue to be back and forth with both teams knocking down there share of shots. Paul Preziosi led the scoring for the Colonels in the first half, scoring 10 of his eventual 17 points while grabbing nine rebounds to almost achieve a double-double in the first half. Gordon took a 49-29 lead into the half.
Both teams traded baskets to start the second half, until Curry went on a 9-0 run starting at the 13:08. Curry would cut the lead down to 15 with nine and a half minutes remaining in the game. The Fighting Scots offense was just too much for the Colonels to overcome, with Gordon going on to win by a score of 88-72.
Tim Flanagan had a strong showing in his senior game, dropping 26 points, dishing out a team high in assists (3) and a team high in steals (3). Pina and Preziosi both amassed double-doubles, Pina with 18 points and 12 boards and Preziosi with 17 points and 12 boards.
Release courtesy of Curry Sports Info For the Scots- Garrisson Duvivier (Brockton, Mass.) once again led the Fighting Scots in scoring despite playing only 14 minutes in total. Duvivier had a monstrous 16 points and eight rebounds in the short span.
- Eric Demers (W. Wareham, Mass.) made half of his shots and finished with 15 points.
- Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass.) ended the year off right with another double-double at 14 points and 13 rebounds.
- Jaren Yang (San Francisco, Calif.) garnered an efficient game of 13 points and two steals.
- Jake Hart (Allendale, N.J.) had another effort game with eight points, six assists and four boards.
Quick Stats- Gordon's two highest rebound efforts this season came against Curry, 58 and 53.
- The Scots finished the regular season a full six rebound per game better than any other team in conference in margin. Gordon came into the weekend sixth in the entire country.
- The Fighting Scots went 1-7 against the top four teams in the conference tournament field during the regular season. Gordon's lone win came at home against Eastern Nazarene.
