Team OverviewsThe Scots...look for some redemption after dropping both regular season contests to their local rival. Endicott controlled both games in the second half and held a comfortable advantage at the end of game two despite Gordon making it look closer at the end. Gordon played above .500 in the second half of the conference schedule, but was 1-7 against the top four teams in the CCC—a concern for the team moving forward should they look for an upset tonight.
Garrisson Duvivier (Brockton, Mass.) has become an offensive lead for the Scots in his first season. After a somewhat slow start while getting acclimated to the college game, Duvivier exploded in the second half of Gordon's schedule and increased his points-per-game average by more than three scores. The freshman forward has feasted on getting to the basket and hanging around for offensive rebounds to give Gordon one of the best second-chance offenses in the region. Duvivier won the Rookie of the Year award for the Commonwealth Coast Conference on Monday after averaging a double-double in a season where he notched a conference-high 14 in-game double-doubles. Sam Johnson (Chatham, Mass.) is a part of the two-headed rebounding monster for the Scots, as the junior forward led the conference in total rebounds and rebounds per game at 11.2. Johnson is among the national leaders in all facets of rebounding, inluding offensive boards. Gordon is sixth in the country in rebounding margin and seventh in total rebounding entering Tuesday's game.
Eric Demers (W. Wareham, Mass.) was named All-CCC Third Team alongside Johnson after averaging over 12 points per game in his freshman season. The streaky guard has showed up in the biggest moments of the Scots season, especially at the end of close victories when he has been relied upon to take a clutch shot. Jaren Yang (San Francisco, Calif.) has given Gordon some stability at the point in his second straight year as the starter, while Jake Hart (Allendale, N.J.) has given Gordon some toughness after being inserted into the lineup midway through the year.
Gordon's bench has had its ups and downs this season, but it will play a major role in Tuesday's contest. Noah Szilagyi (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Jake "Iceman" Haar (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Richie Armand (Hempstead, N.Y.) give the second unit a different look at the guard spots. Graham Tienhaara (Holden, Mass.) and Udoka Obiora (Boston, Mass.) will have to give the Scots front court some much needed breathers against Endicott's athletic bigs.
The Gulls...were in play for a top two pick until the final week, but a second loss to Wentworth sealed their fate. Like Gordon, Endicott did not manage a good record against the best teams in the league, with their lone win coming against Nichols in the first half of the year. Endicott has won three straight over Gordon dating back to January of 2015 after the Scots had tied the overall series at 17. Endicott was one of only three teams to best the Bison this season and have an impressive win over NESCAC opponent Middlebury in the first month of the year.
Kamahl Walker (Worcester, Mass.) was the CCC Player of the Year following his sophomore season and was an All-CCC First-Teamer once again this year. Walker led the Gulls in scoring at 20.6 per game, while making 45 percent of his attempts on the season. Super-athletic forward Daquon Sampson (Germantown, Md.) is another part of the deep junior class who finished third on the team in scoring at 12.8 per game. Sampson gives teams fits because of his efficient nature from deep, but he also possessing the athleticism to create mismatches in the post.
Max Motroni (W. Warwick, R.I.) is a smart, tough guard who can take what he is given from any spot on the floor. Motroni, along with Walker and Sampson, has been a staple in the Gulls' starting lineup since the end of the freshman year.
Endicott's upperclassmen-heavy lineup is rounded out by Stephen Basden (Lynn, Mass.), Drew Sawyer (Norwalk, Conn.) and Chris Lipscomb (W. Springfield, Mass.).
