WENHAM, Mass.—After a two-week layover from spring break, Gordon Men's Tennis handled local rival Salem State 9-0 in the home opener for the Scots. Senior Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) returned to the court to get two wins after missing all of break due to injury.
Gordon improves to 7-2 this season, while Salem State drops its second consecutive North Shore Cup match 9-0 and falls to 0-2 to begin 2016.
Hall and Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) teamed back up at first doubles to register an 8-1 victory. Rookie Nate Lookwhy (Westborough, Mass.) and sophomore Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) finished with an identical result at second dubs to put Gordon up 2-0.
The Fighting Scots had to tough out a tight match at third doubles, but Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.) and Kris Marineau (Auburn, N.H.) did enough to best Kevin Lam (Salem, Mass.) and Luke Hodgkins (Winthrop, Mass.), 8-5.
Gordon had its way in singles play while taking the top five matches with only three total games lost. David Dluznieski (Auburn, Mass.) took two games in the first set and one game in the second from Daugherty at sixth singles, but the Gordon senior closed the book on the shutout.
Salem State will look to break into the win column on Saturday when they host Bridgewater State for a Little East Conference match. Gordon jumps right into Commonwealth Coast Conference action with a match at Eastern Nazarene on Thursday.
